Begin by reading The Railroad\nStories and consider what kind of world Sholem Aleichem inhabited. Read the\ntales of Tevye the Dairyman and consider how each of Tevye’s daughters\nrepresents a different future for the Jewish people. Look at the rise of\nYiddish theater in New York and reflect on the conditions that made the\nproduction of Fiddler on the Roof possible. Finally\, we will watch Tevya\, a\n1939 Yiddish film adaptation of the stories\, which we will compare with the\n1971 film of the Broadway show. Dr. Avi Blitz will be our guide as we compare\nhow the Broadway musical changed the original stories to align with Jewish-\nAmerican realities and explore the ways in which the play speaks to a\nuniversal immigrant experience in the United States.**** \nTuition: $80 \nView event on Jlive: https://jlive.app/events/8599 \nClick here to join the livestream. http://jlearn.online

Fisher Federation Building \nMONDAYS\, NOON – 1 PM\nNov. 4\, 11\, 18; Dec. 2\, 9\, 16 \nThe world is desperately in need of more kindness. As Jews\, we are often the\ntargets of the most virulent hatred and cruelty. We will explore the primary Jewish\ntexts regarding the application of this mitzvah in real life. • What are the\nattitudes\, emotions and behaviors that love requires? • How do we develop\nthose attitudes\, emotions and behavior tendencies? • Can\, and should\, we love\nothers equally to ourselves? • Should we love people who do bad things? • What\nis self-love and is it included in this mitzvah? • Why is this mitzvah\nconsidered the greatest principle of Judaism? \nTuition: $95 \nView event on Jlive: https://jlive.app/events/8569
