SUMMARY:Theodore Bikel: In the Shoes of Sholom Aleichem
DESCRIPTION:75 Minutes | Documentary | USA | English\nProduced under the aegis of The National Center for Jewish Film\nDirector: John Lollos / Narrator: Alan Alda \nPortraits of two beloved icons–Sholom Aleichem and Theodore Bikel–are woven\ntogether in the enchanting documentary\, Theodore Bikel: In the Shoes of\nSholom Aleichem \, which combines Bikel’s charismatic storytelling and\nmasterful performances with a broader exploration of Aleichem’s remarkable\nlife and work. The two men have much in common: wit\, wisdom and talent\, all\nshot through with deep humanity and Yiddishkeit. \nTheodore Bikel \, the unstoppable performer whose career spanned more than\n150 screen roles (including an Oscar-nominated turn in The Defiant Ones) and\ncountless stage and musical productions\, was also the foremost interpreter of\nSholom Aleichem’s work. Bikel played Tevye the Milkman on stage more than\n2\,000 times and animated Aleichem’s work through his creation of two\ncelebrated musical plays about the great Russian author. \nA pioneer of modern Jewish literature who championed and luxuriated in the\nYiddish language\, Sholom Aleichem created dozens of indelible characters.\nHis Tevye the Milkman\, Motl the Cantor’s Son\, and Menachem Mendl all remain\ninvaluable windows into pre-war Eastern European Jewish life\, real and\nimagined. \nFollowing the film\, Aimee Ginsburg Bikel will continue the celebration of\nTheodore Bikel’s (z"l) Centennial year\, sharing stories of her late husband’s\nremarkable career and legacy. She will be joined onstage for a concert of\nTheodore Bikel’s greatest hits performed by acclaimed Yiddish musical artist\n(and Detroit favorite!) Mikhl Yashinsky and musical director Dr. Lorry\nA. Black \, Lowell Milken Center for Music of American Jewish Experience UCLA\nHerb Alpert School of Music. \nPresented by SAJE (Seminars for Adult Jewish Enrichment) and the Lenore Marwil\nDetroit Jewish Film Festival. Promotional Partners Detroit Jewish Book Fair\,\nHenry & Delia Meyers Library\, and JLearn. \nThis program is made possible by generous support from Workmen’s\nCircle/Arbeter Ring and Bronze Film Sponsor Jewish Historical Society of\nMichigan Sholem Aleichem Institute Yiddishkeit Programming Fund.\nSAJE is endowed by a generous gift from Cis Maisel and supported by Carol &\nRonald P. Fogel\, Sheri & David Jaffa\, and Elaine & Michael Serling through The\nJ’s Pillars of Light Program. \nView event on Jlive: https://jlive.app/events/8241

SUMMARY:The Birth Of Antisemitism with Rabbi Joseph Klein
DESCRIPTION:The Birth Of Antisemitism\nDid you know that Antisemitism did not exist prior to the 1st C CE? Before the\nGospels the Philistines\, Assyrians\, Babylonians\, Persians\, and Romans clashed\nwith Israelite and Jewish communities for geo-political control of the Land of\nIsrael. They were not against Jews because they were "Jews"\, not because of\nwho we were. or what we believed\, or what they thought we believed. It is only\nthe early Jesus community who painted the Jews as anti-God\, as inherently\nevil. Join Rabbi Klein for this timely class. \nInstructor : Rabbi Joseph Klein\nTuition: $95\nDay/Time: Fri 11:30 am – 1 PM\nLocation: This Class will be on ZOOM\nClass Dates : 6/7/2024\, 6/14/2024\, ****6/21/2024\, 6/28/2024\, \nView event on Jlive: https://jlive.app/events/7146 \nClick here to join the livestream. http://jlearn.online
